Using My Photos? Read This First.

I have been in photography for a couple of years now and something I repeatedly see is that people are confused about licenses and how they can use my photos.

I am writing this blog post as a kind of Q&A style thing to clear up some common questions and confusions, and provide examples of what is and isn’t okay.

Can I license and/or use your photos?

My photos are already licensed to you! I license almost all of my photos under CC-BY-NC-ND.

This means that you can use my photos as long as you:

  1. Leave the image unaltered¹ OR do not distribute modified versions
  2. Give appropriate credit when sharing it
  3. Do not use it for commercial purposes

¹Using a photo as your profile picture is fine, please give credit when asked though!

Examples

Please make sure you at least have one of the two (but preferably both!)

In this case, Spicey had gotten permission to use the watermark-less version beforehand. If you want to use my photos commercially or without giving credit, be like Spicey, ask me first!

I have been photographed by you, but I don’t want that!

Not wanting to be photographed is a completely understandable request and I do my best to identify if people want to be photographed before doing so. However, mistakes can happen! Please get in touch and I will remove any images I have made of you, I will also try not taking any photos of you in the future.

I’m a Fursuit maker, can I still use your photos?

Yes and No. Please do not use my photos when you are advertising a product. However, simply posting my photos (with the aforementioned credit), without directly using the photos to sell something is perfectly fine.

If you would like to use my photos for advertisement purposes or on your website, please get in touch and we will figure something out!

Can I edit your photos before uploading? (Instagram Filters)

Please don’t! I try to edit all photos to the best of my abilities, if you don’t like an edit please let me know! I’ll see what I can do.

Telegram Stickers are mostly fine as long as they do not cover the watermark or the main subject of the image.

Final Words

If there are any other questions or concerns about my photography and/or your involvement in them, please reach out and I will update this post as needed.

Thanks, take care!
