Warning: i’m not a writer, english is not my native language, my ramblings may be hard to read for some people.
If you’re into photography you probably experienced this before;
You’re mindlessly scrolling through eBay and stumble upon a listing for a beautiful, cheap lens, probably made in a country that no longer exists, you set your maximum bid to 40 bucks and forget about it immediately..
This has been happening way too much with me, to the point where my lens cabinet was overflowing with lenses and i ended up accidentally dropping one of my favourite vintage lenses, breaking it in the process..
In combination with having to do a very quick move to a new apartment recently, i decided to sort and throw out all lenses i no longer use, and sell the ones that are still worth something, i ended up keeping the following lenses:
- Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4
- TTArtisan 50mm f/1.4
- Sony FE 50mm f/1.8
- Unused: Pentacon Auto 1.8/50 MC (kept for sentimental value)
- Unused: Pentacon Auto 2.8/28 (kept for sentimental value)
- Soligor Wide-Auto 28mm f/2.8
- Sigma 70-300 Macro (PK Mount, Adapted to Sony FE)
And everything was fine.
..Until about a week later, i was out shooting with my beloved Samyang AF 85, already struggling with it because the place we were in was quite crammed and i just couldn’t find the space to frame my photos properly.
Now, the fursuiter was not well-versed in photography terms and had no idea that i was missing (what should-have-been) essential lenses, so they asked me if we can take a quick high angle shot, so i checked my camera bag.
“I have no wide angle lens with me.”
And it was no one’s fault but my own, because instead of saving on a decent zoom lens i ended up spending it all on kinda-samey lenses just because i liked how they looked, despite having zero use cases for them.
Two days later i put most of my 50mm lenses up for sale, a few days after that i ordered my first brand new zoom lens;
A Sigma ART 24-70 f/2.8.

And that’s where we’re at now, my hope is that it will replace all my 28 and 50mm lenses so i can stop carrying around 4 lenses if i’m unsure what kind of conditions i’ll be shooting in.
Once i gathered enough experience i might even write another blog post about it, if i can find my will to write, that is.
Thank you for reading, take care.
